Philosophy

Not long ago, I came across a quote from the French author, philosopher, and playwright Albert Camus. A heroic member of the French Resistance in WWII, prolific writer, and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957, Camus battled poverty in his youth and tuberculosis in adulthood. Killed in a car accident in 1960, he was just 46 at the time of his death. With his star crossed life, the optimism of this quote spoke to me. My unswerving world view and the cowboy in the picture suggest that we attempt a lifelong ride to the sunshine.

My dear,

In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love.

In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile.

In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm.

I realized, through it all, that…

In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.

And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.

Truly yours,

Albert Camus
